This holiday just doesn't mark the start of Summer, and cookouts - but as a remembrance day for those that paid the ultimate sacrifice.

Anyone have any special plans (even if it's a cookout)?

I have the yard mowed and all the drive trimmed. The brisket is smoked and a rub applied. It is now residing in the fridge till Memorial Day to let the rub penetrate. Then we heat it in the oven wrapped in foil. The Bronco is loaded with urns and flowers for tomorrow when after church we will journey about 100 miles to my family grave spot where we will decorate. Busy weekend.

It really was a busy weekend for you. Care to share the brisket recipe in greater detail for the rest of us to enjoy it? :)

Well, first of all smoke it first otherwise the rub prevents the rub from penetrating. Then I start with brown sugar, add a good vinegar, salt, pepper, garlic powder, celery seed, red pepper flakes, mustard, what am I forgetting? I don't measure, just add ingredients to suit my taste.
After smoking I apply the rub and wrap the brisket in foil and refrig overnight. Then 3 hours in the oven at low heat and serve.

This bookmark is going to get in handy soon. Thanks!
