blown headgasket symptoms

I haven't worked on these types of engines before so I'm want to double check before I start tearing up the mower. What are the symptms of a blown headgasket on a gh 730 2? The thing that makes me suspect it is that there's smoke coming from the dip stick tube once I turn the engine off

Yup can be blown head gasket along with symptoms like coolant in the oil, white exhaust smoke or bubbles in the radiator.

Smoke from the dipstick tube typicallly means a blown head gasket, so youre right.. Also watch for white exhaust smoke, overheating,, or milky oil. Check compression and oil before doing any repairs

Right, checking the cylinder seal and fluid early on can save you from taking things apart for no reason.
