Quick battery check before winter starts

As winter approaches, I thought it would be smart to do a quick battery check.
I was prepping for a cold morning on the farm and wondered if my battery would survive the chill.
What’s your quick and easy way to assess battery health before those frigid early mornings?

I always start with a simple voltage check. if it’s sitting below 12.4V with the engine off, it’s already struggling
I also check the voltage while the glow plugs are cycling. if it drops below 10V during that draw, I know I’m buying a new battery before the first real freeze hits

Before the cold sets in, I always take a moment to check my battery’s voltage with a multimeter. If it’s reading below 12.4V, I know it’s time for a replacement better to be cautious on those cold mornings

Always have a jumper pack in my truck, just in case. It gives me peace of mind for those frosty mornings when the cold could drain the battery, but a quick jump gets me back on track.

I’ve learned the hard way that it’s important to check both the voltage and clean the terminals. A mixture of baking soda and water works great to combat corrosion, and I make sure to use a battery maintainer whenever possible.
