My L3710 is throwing a fit and won’t shut off when I turn the key. I can literally yank the key out, and it just keeps chugging along like it’s got a life of its own! The only way to kill the engine is to pull the fuel shutoff knob. I’m starting to think if it’s a wiring issue or something else funky going on.

Anyone else deal with this crazy issue?

I realize a lot of time has passed since your post. Have you managed to resolve the shutdown problem?

Your L3710 uses an electric fuel shutoff solenoid to stop the engine, which is likely the source of the issue. The solenoid receives 12V power from the key switch to pull a plunger, allowing fuel to flow to the injection pump. When you turn the key off, power is cut and a spring forces the plunger back, starving the engine of fuel. Your issue is either a mechanical failure where the solenoid is stuck open or an electrical failure where it's receiving constant power. You'll find it mounted on the injection pump with a wire running to it.

Before you check for voltage, do you hear an audible click from the solenoid when you cycle the key from on to off without starting the engine?

Im having the same problem. Solenoid tested, relay tested, switch new. What to do?

I'm no expert, but I'd love to help if I could! Hopefully, someone who knows more can jump in. This sounds tough, maybe a short or some sneaky wiring is keeping the solenoid on. I'd check the whole circuit closely.

It sounds like the problem might be with the ignition switch or the fuel shutoff solenoid rather than anything related to the PTO. If it only cuts off when you adjust the fuel knob, I’d recommend checking the key switch, relay, and the wiring connected to the shutoff circuit first.
