My dad has had this mower for years, and yesterday, it's finally broke down

we always keep it well maintained, that's why we're surprised that this happened

I tried it again today, it sat for an hour and started, but it was rough

I've tried everything that I think of, but haven't pulled the carb yet, but is it necessary?

Does anyone here have the same issue?

All insights are welcome!

But as you mentioned, it's served you for years. Maybe it's time it rested? What's your mower model and year? We can't really help out much with only very few info pieces listed on your thread. But I'm so sorry that happened if it's been well-maintained. Prolly died of old age.

The rough running you mentioned after letting it sit makes me think it's a fuel delivery issue.
Even with good maintenance, the carb can still get gunked up over time, especially with ethanol in modern gas.
Honestly, pulling and cleaning the carb is probably the next logical and necessary step, and it's a pretty common fix for rough running after a period of sitting.
It might just have some varnish or debris blocking a jet.
And yeah, if you can share more info about the mower model, maybe more members can give more specific insights!

It could be a sign that age is finally catching up and it's time to start thinking about a replacement instead of another repair
