Careful operation is your best insurance against anaccident. Read this section carefully before operatingthe mower. All operators, no matter how muchexperience they may have had, should read thismanual, tractor manual, and other related manualsbefore operating mower. It is the owner's obligationto instruct all operators in safe operation. Before operation (Pre-operation)• Operator1. Do not operate the machine while under theinfluence of alcohol, medication, othersubstances or while fatigued.2. Be thoroughly familiar with the controls and learnhow to stop quickly in an emergency. Know yourequipment and its limitations.3. Do not wear loose, torn, or bulky clothing aroundmachine. The clothing may catch on moving partsor controls, leading to the risk of accident.Wear and use any additional safety items such ashard hat, safety boots or shoes, eye and hearingprotection, gloves, etc., as appropriate orrequired.4. Never allow children to operate the mower, evenunder adult supervision.5. Read and understand this manual and the tractoroperator's manual before operating mower.Allow only a properly trained person to operatethe tractor.• Machine, blades and equipment1. Never operate the mower without proper guards,shields, and the grass catcher bag or dischargechute in place.2. The mower is equipped with many safety devices.Do not alter or remove any part of safety systemfor your safety.3. Keep all nuts, bolts and screws tight to be sure themower is in safe working condition.4. Check the blade bolts at frequent intervals forproper tightness.5. Inspect the blades for wear and damage. A dullblade can be sharpened, but a blade that is wornout, bent, cracked, or otherwise damaged must bereplaced.6. KUBOTA recommends the use of ROPS and seatbelt in almost all applications.Always use seat belt when the tractor is equippedwith a ROPS.Never use the seat belt when the tractor is notequipped with a ROPS.7. Replace damaged or illegible safety labels.See next page for required labels.• Working area1. Thoroughly inspect the area where the mower isto be used.Remove all stones, sticks, wires, bones and otherobjects that could be thrown at high speed.2. Keep the area of operation clear of all persons,particularly small children, and pets.All people and pets should be kept at a safedistance from the work area. Operation• Starting1. Never start engine or operate levers fromanywhere other than the seat.2. Before, starting the engine, make sure that alllevers (including auxiliary control levers) are intheir neutral positions, that the parking brake isengaged and that both the PTO clutch lever andthe range gear shift lever (Hi-Lo) are disengaged.• Operation1. Keep bystanders at a safe distance from themachine during mowing operations.2. Do not stand on the mower.3. While making turns in rough· terrain, reducetractor speed.4. Do not mow while in reverse unless absolutelynecessary and then only after inspecting theentire area behind the mower.Be extra careful of children.5. Upon striking a foreign object, stop and inspectthe tractor and the mower for damage. Repair thedamage before resuming operation.6. If the mower discharge chute becomes clogged,stop the tractor; disengage the mower drive; shutoff the engine and remove the key, and clean outthe chute before continuing.7. Hillside operation is dangerous and is notrecommended. If it is necessary to mow on ahillside, use extreme caution. Never mow acrossthe face of a slope. Do not operate with the loader.8. Do not mow on steep inclines, rough terrain ornear drop-offs. Maintenance and StorageNever attempt to make adjustments or repairs of anykind while the tractor and mower are running. Shutoff the engine, remove the key, set the parking brakeand allow the blades to stop.
