Block heater install gone wrong on 2021 Kubota L6060

I was helping my brother last night with his L6060, trying to get a block heater in before the temps drop. Same deal as my old L5240, tight clearance around the frost plug near the flywheel and I ended up drilling a couple shallow holes to spin it out. Tractor runs but now we're seeing white oil and I'm worried I nicked into something I shouldn't have. Has anyone here measured the casting thickness behind that plug on the newer L60 series?

White oil is definitely a warning sign, it might mean coolant is mixing in. I haven’t measured that casting, but it does seem pretty thin around the flywheel on the L60s. It could be a good idea to do a pressure test to confirm.

Okay, that does sound like a problem. I would also check the dipstick for water or a milky color. It could show if coolant is leaking in before you take things apart too much.

On the L6060 the frost plug bore is slightly shallower than the older L‑series, so some aftermarket heaters bottom out before seating which matches what you ran into. The point about checking oil for coolant is valid since white oil can mean contamination, but it can also be aeration from short run times so it’s worth confirming with a pressure test before assuming the worst. Have you measured the depth of the casting pocket against the heater element length to see if you need the shorter OEM style cartridge?

You nailed it, @prestigious-iceberg77! I just went and measured and the heater element is a full quarter inch longer than the bore is deep. Now I have to figure out the best way to repair the damage to the block.
