Careful operation is your best insurance against anaccident.Read and understand this manual carefully beforeoperating the machine. All operators, no matter howmuch experience they may have had, must read thisand other related manuals before operating themachine or any implement attached to it. It is theowner's obligation to instruct all operators in safeoperation.If the operator(s) or mechanic(s) cannot understand thecontents, it is the owner's responsibility to explain thismaterial to them. This mowing machine is capable ofamputating hands, feet and throwing objects. Failure toobserve the following safety instructions could result inserious injury or death.BEFORE OPERATING THEMACHINEKnow your equipment and its limitations. Read allinstructions in this manual before attempting to startand operate the machine.1. General• The zero turn mowing machine has differentsteering characteristics than other machines with asteering wheel and does not have a service brakepedal. Normal slowing down and stopping is donewith the motion control levers. Read andunderstand the operator's manual before operatingthe machine. Practice operating the machine at lowengine speed in an unobstructed area withoutengaging the mower.• Pay special attention to the safety labels on themachine itself.• Do not allow any bystanders around or near themachine during operation.• Do not allow passengers, children or non-qualifiedoperators on the machine at any time. The operatormust remain in the machine seat throughoutoperation.• Do not operate the machine or any attachmentswhile under the influence of alcohol, medication,controlled substances or when fatigued.• Do not wear loose, torn, or bulky clothing aroundthe machine. The clothing may catch on movingparts or controls, leading to the risk of an accident.Wear and use any additional safety items such as ahard hat, safety boots or shoes, eye and hearingprotection, gloves and so on, as appropriate orrequired.• Do not wear radio or music headphones whileoperating the machine. Do not operate the machineor any attachments while using or texting with acellphone or any other electronic device.Safe operation requires your full attention.• Carefully check the vicinity before operatingmachine or any implement attached to it. Clear thework area of objects (such as wires and rocks,) thatmight be picked up and thrown. Check for overheadclearance which may interfere with the grasscatcher or ROPS.• Check brakes and other mechanical parts forcorrect adjustment and wear. Replace worn ordamaged parts promptly. Check the tightness of allnuts and bolts regularly.(See MAINTENANCE on page 46 andADJUSTMENT on page 70.)• Keep all shields and guards in place. Replace anythat are damaged or missing. Do not operateunless they are functioning properly.• Before allowing other people to use your machine,explain how to operate and have them read thismanual before operation.• In addition to the design and configuration ofequipment, hazard control and accident preventionare dependent upon the awareness, concern andprudence of personnel involved in the operation,transport and maintenance of the equipment.• Keep the machine and attachments in goodoperating condition and keep safety devices inplace and in proper working condition. Do notoperate unless they are functioning properly.• Do not modify the machine. Unauthorizedmodification may affect the function of the machine,which may result in personal injury.• Use only implements approved by KUBOTA. Useproper ballast on the front or rear of the machine toreduce the risk of upsets. Follow the safe operatingprocedures specified in the manuals of theequipment.• Keep your machine clean. Accumulations of dirt,grease, and trash can contribute to fires and lead topersonal injury.• The exhaust gas from the muffler is very hot. Toprevent fire, do not expose dry grass, mowedgrass, oil and any other combustible materials tothe exhaust gas. Use a spark arrester whererequired. Keep the engine and muffler clean all thetimes.
